Lizzie is a freelance professional photographer based in North Yorkshire, specialising in landscape and travel photography. Looking for strong patterns through colour, light and texture, she believes it is vital to draw an emotional response from the viewer. If they want to know more about what they are looking at, or have a sense of what she experienced at that moment, or just want to be there, then she feels she has succeeded. To this end she aims to reveal the allure of a place or subject in all kinds of light to enhance what is the reality of normal experience.

Lizzie believes that being able to visualise and react quickly to the potential of an image is particularly important for travel photography. Time is often limited and there may be no opportunity to return. Having travelled extensively she has built up a large portfolio of striking images from all over the world. Closer to home she is concentrating more on photographing local scenes with new eyes, looking at different ways in which to convey the beauty and diversity of Britain's landscape and heritage and trying to share that sense of discovery.

Having previously worked with both 35mm and medium format film cameras, Lizzie moved across to a digital SLR system a few years ago. Despite some reservations about the level of manipulation evident in some digital photography today, she welcomes having full control over the final image and always aims to represent faithfully the scene before her. There is still that element of interpretation - of knowing, or anticipating, how a particular scene will be captured by the camera. The art is then to translate this at the post processing stage, traditionally done in the darkroom but now often achieved with computers, in the 'digital darkroom'.
